Millers in control against rivals Addiscombe

Sanderstead 1st XI made it five wins from five and are now the only unbeaten team in South League Surrey Division 2, following their 3-0 home win against local rivals Addiscombe on Saturday 31 October.  The As remain in second place, but trail their victors by five points.

Denzil Dolley hit two goals for the Millers, but it was Richard Bruce who opened the scoring midway through the first half.  The attack was initiated by Simon Carter's well-timed tackle, to end a spell of pressure from the visitors.  The centre-back's crisp pass into midfield opened things up for Chris O'Hagan whose deceptive cross was slotted home by Bruce.

Before the interval Dolley saw a shot cleared from the goal by one of his own teammates, but he was soon on the scoresheet after the break.  His first was set up by Bruce and finished with aplomb after he rounded the Addiscombe goalie.  This was the goal that broke the visitors' spirits.  From here on, Sanderstead had the fitness and momentum to keep their opponents at bay.  Carter continued to lead the charge in the heart of the home defence, with sweeper Mark Bryan taking advantage of space in front of him to set up a number of promising attacks as Addiscombe tired.

Martyn Avery could have extended his side's lead but failed to convert into an open goal after a decent build up on the right flank.  His shot was picked off by the opposing centre-back, but Dolley fared better to make his brace.  Alex Vernon sent John Devaney free on the wing and the ball was played to the on-fire striker who struck an unstoppable shot to make it 3-0.

Addiscombe had little in response, allowing the Millers to keep another clean sheet.   Dan Pacitti pulled off a commendable stop from a late short corner and their was solid tackling throughout from the back four, who underlined their credentials as the meanest defence in the league.

Coach Dolley said after the game, "The whole team played well and showed good discipline to earn this win.  Things are looking good for us at the moment but we won't take our foot off the pedal in our quest for promotion."

Sanderstead's 4s also notched a fine win over Addiscombe, overcoming their hosts 5-1.  On his debut for the senior team, colt Adam Prizzey made a real impression, scoring two of his side's goals including a classy finish for his first when he rounded the goalkeeper to slot home tidily.

While the 2s went down 5-3 against Richmond, there was better news for the 3rd XI who looked solid during their 4-0 triumph at home against Teddington.
